New Delhi, 1st August 2023: President Droupadi Murmu has received the much-awaited report from the Rohini Commission, which was set up to probe the sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The Commission for Other Backward Classes was formed in response to an October 2017 notification with the purpose of examining the sub-categorization of OBCs. It is chaired by Justice G Rohini, a retired chief justice of the Delhi High Court.

After receiving thirteen extensions, the commission finally presented its report to President Droupadi Murmu on Monday, as stated by the Social Justice Ministry.

The main responsibilities of the Commission included studying the entries in the Central List of OBCs, identifying and rectifying any repetitions, ambiguities, inconsistencies, spelling or transcription errors. Additionally, it examined the unequal distribution of reservation benefits among OBCs and devised a scientific approach with mechanisms, criteria, norms, and parameters for sub-categorization within the OBCs.
