Prasar Bharati Announces Telecast of T20 World Cup and Other Major Sporting Events on DD Free Dish

New Delhi, 3rd June 2024: Prasar Bharati has announced that it will telecast the T20 World Cup, starting June 2 in the West Indies and USA, on the DD Free Dish platform. This announcement is part of a broader initiative to bring a lineup of major global sporting events to viewers, including live, deferred live, and highlights coverage.

Doordarshan will follow the T20 World Cup with coverage of several high-profile events, such as the Paris Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11, 2024), Paris Paralympic Games (August 28 – September 8, 2024), international cricket series between India and Zimbabwe (July 6 – July 16, 2024) and India and Sri Lanka (July 27 – August 7, 2024), as well as the finals of the French Open (June 8 & 9, 2024) and Wimbledon (July 13 & 14, 2024).

The announcement was made by Prasar Bharati CEO, Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, during a media interaction in New Delhi. Also present were Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Sanjay Jaju; Chairman, Prasar Bharati, Shri Navneet Kumar Sehgal; CEO, Prasar Bharati, Shri Gaurav Dwivedi; and DG, Doordarshan, Ms. Kanchan Prasad. During the event, a special anthem for the T20 World Cup, titled ‘Jazba’ and sung by Shri Sukhwinder Singh, was launched. Additionally, a promo for the T20 event, narrated by renowned storyteller Shri Neelesh Misra, was unveiled.

Doordarshan has also reached agreements with major global sports bodies, such as the NBA and PGTA, to broadcast their content on DD Sports. Notably, NBA 2K League matches are currently telecast on DD Sports Channel.

Prasar Bharati is in advanced negotiations with various sports bodies and agencies to expand the range of sports leagues and events available on its sports channel. Updates will be provided as these partnerships are finalized.

Shri Gaurav Dwivedi also shared details about the arrangements made by Doordarshan and All India Radio for the upcoming counting process on Tuesday.

Over the past year, DD Sports has produced and broadcast numerous multi-sporting events across the country. These include the Khelo India University Games in the North East, Khelo India Youth Games in Tamil Nadu, National Games in Goa, the inaugural Khelo India Para Games in New Delhi, and the Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg and Leh. These events were not only aired on DD Sports but also shared with leading private channels such as Star Sports, Jio Cinema, and Sony Network.

Doordarshan also produced the world feed for cricket matches at the Hangzhou Asian Games in China, which was broadcast across several Asian countries. Furthermore, Doordarshan held the linear television rights for the Indian Cricket Team’s tour of the West Indies in August 2023, providing commentary in English, Hindi, and various regional languages including Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Kannada.

Starting with the upcoming T20 World Cup, Prasar Bharati aims to continue engaging with print, digital, and electronic media as valued stakeholders.
