Pune, 12th January 2023: In an open letter to all political leaders, organizations, and commercial establishments, the Pune Platform for Collaborative Response (PPCR), has appealed to remove the unauthorized, unwanted political and commercial hoardings, flex boards, advertisements, cutouts, buntings, hangings, billboards that are spread all across Pune city.

Pune Platform for Collaborative Response (PPCR) is a volunteer group of prominent business, industry and start-up leaders to assess the potential gaps in the demand and supply of provisions in the Pune region.

In this background, Chairman of Pinnacle Industries, Sudhir Mehta took an initiative on December 18 and tweeted, “While it is good to see the administration actively removing all illegal flex banners & hoardings across #Pune, it is equally important to ensure that the fines imposed are highly prohibitive & proactively discourage both first time & repeat offenders. I urge the leadership of all parties in #Pune to come together and pledge to ensure that all its members immediately put an end to all illegal banners and hoardings. Not only are they illegal & an eye sore, but they are also a huge safety concern. Unless we citizens collectively voice our displeasure, especially to our local politicians & candidates, ‘Flex Bazi’ will only get more aggressive & louder, especially during the upcoming elections. Local signature campaigns by housing societies can be the first step.”

His tweet gained a lot of positive responses from citizens which resulted in PPCR issuing an open letter.

In the letter, members of PPCR said, “We strongly condemn this act as these illegal hoardings/flex not only affect pedestrian movement causing problems for citizens but are also non-biodegradable and an environmental hazard. The Citizens of Pune abhor such displays and are unwilling to accept such sights that are eyesores. In wake of the upcoming G20 conference in the city, Swach Survekshan, followed by other crucial delegations and visits, such illegal structures present a negative image of the city and its stakeholders.”

It continued, “As members of the Pune Platform for Collaborative Response, we appeal to all political leaders, organizations, commercial establishments, individuals, public or private organizations, and institutions, to ensure the immediate removal of all such illegal hoardings/flex/promotions. Our appeal is supported by thousands of individuals, NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations, Housing Societies & Mohalla Committees, who have showcased their indignation through written appeals and social media (annexures attached).”

According to the letter, if no action is taken against the removal of these illegal hoardings/cutouts before 31st January 2023, the members of PPCR will take legal actions against the involved political party, sponsor, facilitator, as well as the individual showcased in the illegal flex/cutout/hoarding.
