Pothole Repair Mission Launched by Yusuf Foundation in Pune
Pune, 21st August 2023: Recognizing the urgent need for road safety improvements in Pune’s Yerwada and Sanjay Park areas near the Pune Airport road, the Yusuf Foundation, an NGO, has launched a mission to address potholes and their perilous impact on public safety. The city, known as an education and IT hub, witnesses a high volume of daily commuters, making road maintenance and safety paramount.
Potholes have long plagued road users, posing risks to both motorists and pedestrians while adversely affecting overall infrastructure quality. The Yusuf Foundation’s initiative extends beyond pothole repair, aiming to spotlight the broader implications of road maintenance for community well-being and safety in Pune. Led by Javed Shaikh, a civil engineer and President of the foundation, this endeavor focuses on fostering safer roads, innovative solutions, and community engagement.
Javed Shaikh emphasizes that proactive investment in road maintenance and novel approaches can play a pivotal role in saving lives and enhancing community prosperity. Employing cold asphalt mix for pothole repairs, coupled with environmentally friendly materials, showcases the foundation’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting a sustainable urban environment.
Potholes have emerged as a global concern, resulting from a combination of factors such as traffic, weather conditions, and insufficient maintenance. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways reports a distressing statistic, indicating that over 9,300 deaths in India between 2015 and the present day are attributed to potholes.
The initiative echoes a pressing truth – timely pothole maintenance can potentially safeguard lives. The Yusuf Foundation’s effort not only fills potholes but also extends a lifeline of safety to Pune’s citizens, positioning road safety as a critical community priority.
