Porsche Crash: Social Media Influencer Under Scanner As Pune Police Investigate Viral Instagram Videos in Kalyani Nagar Accident Case

Pune, 25th May 2024: Following the tragic accident in Kalyani Nagar on Sunday, May 19, involving a minor, two videos featuring a boy resembling the accused went viral on social media. The accused’s mother denied the authenticity of these videos in a video statement.

Police investigations have since revealed that a young man from Madhya Pradesh created the videos. The cyber police have registered a case under IPC sections 509 and 294(b) and section 67 of the IT Act. Efforts are currently underway to arrest the individual, with Instagram being asked to provide account details.

The incident occurred around 2:30 AM near Landmark Society, Kalyani Nagar, when the son of builder Vishal Agarwal of Bramha Realty and Infrastructure, driving a Porsche sports car, hit a motorcycle from behind. The collision resulted in the deaths of Ashwini Kosta and Aneesh Awadhiya, both IT engineers.

The accident has sparked extensive discussions on social media, leading to numerous reels and memes. One particularly viral reel featured a boy resembling the accused making offensive and obscene statements. This led to false rumors identifying the boy as the accused, which were further propagated by some media reports. The police, supported by the boy’s mother, have clarified that the videos are inaccurate.

A cognizable offence has been registered. Police Sub-Inspector Snehal Adsule discovered the reel during an Instagram search and noted that it contained obscene and indecent statements. Consequently, a case has been registered against the unknown account holder. Instagram has been requested to provide detailed account information, and a technical analysis will follow to aid in arrests. The public is urged to disregard accident-related reels to prevent social tension.
