Pune, 7th December 2023:

In a surprising turn of events, former Minister Nawab Malik, who recently served an 18-month jail term in connection with an alleged money-laundering case, has reportedly aligned himself with the breakaway faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Sources within the party revealed that Malik, aged 64, had spent time incarcerated from February 2022 to August 2023 and is presently out on medical bail.

Amidst speculation about his political stance, Ajit Pawar publicly extended a warm welcome to Malik, stating, “You are most welcome in Nagpur.” He acknowledged Malik’s stature as a senior leader capable of making his independent decisions in such matters.

The unfolding of this unexpected political alliance became evident as Malik, on his visit to Nagpur for the Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature, paid a visit to the office of one of the Ajit Pawar group leaders within the Vidhan Bhavan complex. This move raised eyebrows and sparked considerable interest among political circles.

Sporting a smile tinged with a hint of embarrassment, Malik engaged with legislators and officials, exchanging pleasantries, shaking hands, and acknowledging the crowd, marking his first appearance in a legislative session in nearly two years.

Taking a decisive stance, Malik was observed occupying the back row on the treasury benches during the commencement of the legislature session, signaling his allegiance to Ajit Pawar’s faction within the NCP.

Senior leaders affiliated with Sharad Pawar’s camp in both Mumbai and Nagpur refrained from commenting on the unfolding developments. However, they acknowledged Malik’s status as a senior leader and suggested that his decision to align with Ajit Pawar might have been made after careful consideration of various aspects.

Since his release on bail in mid-August, Malik had been courted by both the Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar factions, keeping his political intentions under wraps, thus fueling speculation that has now culminated with this definitive move.
