Pune, 11th October 2023: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has recently issued a crucial notification regarding the ambitious Ring Road project, set to significantly impact the landscape of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad city areas. This extensive ring road will be built through 44 villages spanning four taluks: Khed, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval. The project envisions the construction of 15 flyovers, two railway flyovers, and five tunnels, fundamentally transforming the local topography.

PMRDA had previously outlined the development of the Ring Road in its Regional Development Plan, reflecting its importance in the region. The initial plan specified a total length of 128 kilometers, with a road width of 90 meters in the first phase. However, a subsequent decision has led to an expansion of the road’s width to 110 meters, akin to the MSRDC Ring Road. The inclusion of this Ring Road was embedded in the regional plan of 1987, underlining its long-term significance.

Over time, construction projects were sanctioned along various segments of this road, making land acquisition a potentially complex and costly endeavor. Furthermore, the proposed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ring Road, with a width of 110 meters, is situated just 15 kilometers from this project. Recognizing the potential for redundancy and limited spacing between the two roads, a decision was reached to reduce the width of the Ring Road to 65 meters, a measure that has received approval from the state government.

Consequently, PMRDA has commissioned a consulting company to undertake the task of preparing the project report for this revised Ring Road. The company has completed the requisite survey, incurring an expenditure of approximately 5 thousand 800 crore rupees for land acquisition, while the overall budget for the project stands at around 17 thousand 412 crore rupees.
