Pune, 5th December 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recently took stringent action against Rosary School by sealing the offices of two of its branches due to their failure to pay property taxes.

Ajit Deshmukh, the Head of PMC’s Tax Department, confirmed that only the offices of two branches of Rosary School have been sealed, emphasizing that this measure has not disrupted the educational activities of students. Importantly, classrooms remain unaffected and have not been sealed.

Despite the civic body’s initiative offering a 40 percent rebate, which was unfortunately stalled, PMC authorities have been prompt and decisive in responding to properties that have fallen behind on tax payments.

These particular taxpayers have received multiple warnings regarding their outstanding property taxes, yet they have failed to settle their dues. The PMC administration has extended a final deadline until December 20 for the payment of the overdue balances. In the event of continued non-payment, the PMC will proceed with the auctioning of these properties as part of their stringent measures.

For the fiscal year 2023–2024, the PMC has set an ambitious target of collecting Rs 2,318.15 crore in property taxes. Additionally, anticipating significant revenue from water taxes imposed on residential properties, the civic administration foresees an approximate inflow of Rs 300 crore, culminating in a projected total property tax revenue of Rs 2,618.15 crore.
