PMC Receives Swachh Survekshan 2023 Honors: 10th Rank Nationally, 5-star Rating for Cleanliness

Pune, 21st February 2024: As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan 2023, the Government of India, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, organized the Swachh Survekshan 2023. The Safai Mitra Safety Award and Waste Free City Award distribution ceremony took place on January 11, 2024, in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

 

In the competition conducted as part of Swachh Survekshan 2023, Pune City achieved the 10th rank among cities in India with a population exceeding 1 lakh. It secured the 9th position among cities with a population exceeding 10 lakh. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) also received a prestigious 5-star rating under the Garbage Free City (GFC) category. The award was presented by Hardeep Singh Puri, Cabinet Minister MoHUA, and Manoj Joshi, Secretary, MoHUA. Vikram Kumar, PMC Commissioner, Dr. Kunal Khemnar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (E), and Sandeep Kadam, Deputy Commissioner and Head of the Solid Waste Management Department, accepted the award on behalf of the Pune Municipal Corporation.

 

PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar attributed the achievement of this honour to the unwavering dedication of all PMC officers and employees, the favourable response from citizens, and the collaborative efforts of NGOs engaged in innovative projects. He expressed the commitment of PMC to intensify efforts towards cleanliness, emphasizing increased public participation in future initiatives.

 

In alignment with this, a cleanliness workshop and felicitation ceremony were organized at Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial, Ganj Peth, Pune, on February 21, 2024, Wednesday, from 11:00 am to 04:00 pm as part of Swachh Survekshan 2023. The event was graced by the presence of PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Additional Commissioner Dr. Kunal Khemnar, Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Sandeep Kadam, along with former Additional Commissioners Suresh Jagtap and Dyaneshwar Molak. Tennis player Rituja Bhosle, the brand ambassador of Swachh Survekshan, was also in attendance.

 

PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar extended congratulations to all officers and employees, emphasizing that this accomplishment was solely possible due to the daily efforts of employees within the boundaries of all regional offices. He provided valuable guidance and assured that, in the future, PMC aims to be among the top three in India in Swachh Survekshan. He also pledged to prioritize the provision of necessary systems and facilities for this endeavour. Additional Commissioner Dr. Kunal Khemnar, former Additional Commissioner Suresh Jagtap, and Dnyaneshwar Molak expressed their enthusiasm and offered encouragement to the employees.

 

Dr. Datta Kohinkar, a Mind Power Trainer, delivered a lecture on the “Unlimited Power of Mind and Stress Relief.” Additionally, the PMC Commissioner felicitated officers, employees, and those engaged in sanitation work from Regional Offices and Main Departments. The recognition was bestowed through the presentation of badges and certificates as a token of appreciation for their dedicated efforts.
