Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO Takes Action Against 18 Vehicles for Illegal Goods Transport, Imposes Rs 2.15 Lakh Fine
Pune, 12th October 2026: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Regional Transport Office (RTO) has taken action against 18 vehicles found violating transport regulations by carrying goods without proper authorisation, imposing a total fine of ₹2.15 lakh during a special inspection drive.
The drive was conducted following complaints that vehicles registered for passenger transportation were being used to transport goods illegally. The complaints involved vehicles operating through online-based service providers, including Porter, Ola, Uber and Rapido.
During the inspection, RTO officials identified violations of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the applicable regulations. Penalties were imposed on the vehicles found violating the rules. The office has also issued notices to the concerned companies and sought explanations regarding the violations.
According to the RTO, Sections 66 and 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, govern permit requirements and penalties for certain violations. Transport vehicles must obtain the necessary permits and comply with the conditions specified in them. Using a vehicle in violation of its permit conditions can invite legal action against the vehicle owner and driver.
The RTO has appealed to vehicle owners and drivers to use vehicles only for the purposes authorised under their registration and permits. Vehicles permitted for passenger transportation should not be used for unauthorised goods transportation.
The office has also urged online-based service providers to ensure that vehicles operating through their platforms comply with the applicable transport regulations.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO stated that inspections would continue regularly to identify violations. Strict penal action will be taken against vehicle owners and drivers if similar violations are detected in the future.
