Pimpri Chinchwad Resident Arrested for Attempting to Set Female Traffic Officer on Fire in Pune

Pune, 6th July 2024: In the wake of the Kalyani Nagar Porsche incident, Pune Police have intensified their crackdown on drunk driving in the city. As part of this initiative, police conducted operations on Laxmi Road, a central area of Pune. During this operation, a traffic branch officer stopped a young man on a two-wheeler. Infuriated by being stopped, the young man poured petrol on a female traffic police officer and attempted to set her on fire.

A case was registered at the Vishrambaug Wada Police Station, and the accused, Sanjay Fakira Salwe, a resident of Pimpri Chinchwad, was arrested.

According to Senior Police Inspector Deepali Bhujbal of Vishrambaug Wada Police Station, the police conduct drunk driving operations daily at Budhwar Chowk on Laxmi Road. The operation on the previous day ran from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. During this time, Sanjay Fakira Salwe arrived on a two-wheeler and appeared suspicious, prompting the traffic police to stop him for questioning and bring him to the Traffic Police Station.

Salwe later ran away, claiming he needed to drink water. Despite a search, he was not found in the vicinity. An hour later, Salwe returned to the Police Station, threatened to kill the officer, and poured petrol on the female officer and other employees. He attempted to ignite the petrol with a lighter, but other female police officers intervened and restrained him, preventing further calamity. Police have registered a case against Sanjay Salwe, and further investigation is underway.
