Pimpri Chinchwad, 31st May 2024: Following the Pune’s Kalyani Nagar Porsche incident, where a minor allegedly drunk and speeding, causing the on-the-spot deaths of two youths, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have sprung into action. The question arises: are minors allowed in bars and pubs in the city? The police are taking matters into their own hands to find out. Employing a unique strategy, a team of only 10 to 15 officers is stationed directly at the entrance of pubs, ensuring that no underage individuals gain access.

In the wake of the Kalyani Nagar Porsche accident, where the police investigation revealed that a minor was responsible for the fatal crash after drinking at a pub, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have heightened their vigilance. Patrolling the city’s alleys and main roads on motorcycles, they conduct surprise checks at pubs and bars to ascertain if minors are illegally consuming alcohol. Additionally, they scrutinize whether adults are being issued one-day alcohol licenses in compliance with the law.

Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat from the Hinjawadi Police Station said, “We are inspecting bars and restaurants to ensure adherence to rules and regulations, including the issuance of one-day liquor licenses and the presence of underage patrons. Police patrols have been intensified, and our presence on the streets serves as a deterrent. If a minor is found consuming alcohol, legal action will be taken against the establishment owner as per existing laws.”
