Pimpri, November 17, 2020: Around 1,329 women delivered babies during the pandemic since March at Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital which is also the COVID-19 treating centre in the city. Among them, 255 new mothers and eleven newborns were tested COVID-19 positive who have successfully recuperated from the disease.

The hospital had reopened its maternity ward in April because many pregnant women who were due for their delivery dates were facing problems, as many hospitals were refusing to admit them for delivery. The infants were treated in the pediatric department.

The doctors stated that breastfeeding after the baby is born is very important. Every baby is breastfed to develop immunity. After treatment, all the infants have recovered. Even after they were discharged, the hospital kept a check on their health by verifying their recovery and condition over the phone.

“All the infants born at YCM Hospital were tested for coronavirus within the first hour. Eleven babies were found infected. They were successfully treated in the pediatric ward at the hospital. The hospital nurse, the ward boy, the nanny all worked hard for their treatment. With proper treatment, the infants recovered quickly,” said Dr Deepali Ambike, a paediatrician with YCM hospital.
