Pune, February 5, 2021: Post lockdown fuel prices have continued to rise at a slow pace. Petrol price rose to Rs 93.14 per litre in the city on Saturday. This is the highest petrol price in the last eight years.

Ali Daruwala, the spokesperson of the All India Petrol Dealers Association, told Punekar News that in 2013, the petrol price was Rs 93 per litre for the first time. Since then, it has gone up to Rs 93.14 per litre on Saturday. The price of diesel is also rising. The price of diesel has become Rs 82.38 per litre. Crude oil prices are currently three times lower than in 2013.

Taxes imposed by the state and central governments are the reason for the rise in fuel prices. The basic price of petrol is Rs 35 per litre. The remaining amount is being recovered in the form of tax.

“On the one hand, there is no guarantee of salary and jobs, on the other hand, the prices of fuels are increasing continuously. Therefore, the state and central governments should take immediate steps to reduce petrol prices”, said Sonali Jadhav, an IT professional.
