PCMC to Auction Seized Properties on August 5th Due to Unpaid Property Taxes

Pimpri Chinchwad, July 6, 2024: Despite multiple reminders and requests to pay property taxes, some property owners have not complied, prompting the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to seize their properties. These properties will be auctioned on August 5th, with interested buyers able to apply until August 2nd. The auction includes properties of well-known builders and businessmen, as well as those belonging to the Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA). Both residential and non-residential properties are included.
PCMC’s income from building permits has declined, making taxation and tax collection the main sources of revenue. For the past five years, property tax rates have not increased, with a focus instead on recovering tax arrears. Unregistered properties were surveyed and brought under the tax purview, resulting in increased revenue. Now, the process of auctioning the seized properties has begun. Last year, a notice was issued to property owners with years of unpaid taxes by PCMC. Despite this, 88 properties were confiscated due to non-payment and will now be auctioned. These properties have tax arrears ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 3 lakh, and their market value ranges from Rs 19 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore. PCMC has decided to sell the properties through public auction as per the provisions of Chapter VIII (Taxation) Rules 42 to 47 of Schedule ‘D’ of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act of 1949.
Aspirants participating in the auction process should register through a written application, including copies of their Aadhaar Card and PAN Card, at PCMC’s Taxation and Tax Collection Department Head Office by 3 PM on August 2nd. Any financial interests, objections, or claims regarding the auctioned properties should be registered in writing before August 3rd, along with appropriate documents. Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Commissioner of Taxation and Tax Collection, stated that the auction process will be held on August 5th from 12 PM to 3 PM at the office of the Taxation and Tax Collection Department.
