Pimpri-Chinchwad, 18th March 2021: Shiv Sena corporators have recently become aggressive over the water hyacinth issue which is currently the hot topic in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Shiv Sena corporators tried to put water hyacinth around the neck of Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne which led to a scuffle between Shiv Sena corporator Sachin Bhosale and a security guard. The river Pavana, which flows through the city, has a large number of water hyacinths which has led to an increase in the number of mosquitoes.

Bhosale had lodged a complaint with the concerned authorities a few days back regarding the water hyacinth issue. However, as the authorities did not take action and did not removed it from the river in the Thergaon area, Bhosale tried to attend the PCMC General Body meeting by wearing a water hyacinth around his neck. He was stopped near the main entrance of the hall by a security guard and was not allowed to enter it. He sat near the entrance and protested to the concerned authorities. He told the security guards that he would only attend the meeting wearing the water hyacinth.

MNS corporator Sachin Chikhale also came forward to support Bhosale. Chikhale demanded that Bhosale be allowed to enter the hall wearing the water hyacinth. He said that otherwise the meeting will not be allowed to go on smoothly.

Shiv Sena corporator Rahul Kalate also tried to convince the security guards. Meanwhile, when Additional Commissioner Dhakne came to meet him, Bhosale became aggressive and tried to put a hyacinth directly around his neck. There was a scuffle between a security guard and the corporator. After which, Bhosale was allowed to enter the hall.

Mosquitoes have been breeding in the Pavana river passing through Pimpri-Chinchwad city due to water hyacinth. This makes the river a hub for diseases like dengue, malaria, etc. The locals have also demanded that the civic administration should take this matter seriously.
