Pimpri Chinchwad, 2nd September 2024: A case has been registered against an employee of the Health Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for refusing to sign the Panchnama as a witness. The employee is identified as Vitthal Haridas Awhad (43, resident of Gautam Nagar, Pimpri). Police Inspector (Crime) Suhas Awhad reported the incident to the Pimpri Police Station.

Vitthal works in the Health Department at PCMC’s Jijamata Hospital. According to a decision by the Government of Maharashtra, in serious crimes, a government employee is often selected as a witness for the Panchnama at the crime scene. In this case, Vitthal was taken to the scene as a witness.

However, after the documents were prepared, he refused to sign the Panchnama. Despite being informed that it was his obligation to assist with government work and having a written order from his office to participate in the Panchnama, Vitthal still refused to sign the report. As a result, a case has been registered against him. Police Constable Sonmali is investigating the matter.
