PCMC Fines Property Owners Rs 72,000 Over Dengue Larvae, Launches Inspection Raid

Pimpri Chinchwad, June 27, 2024: The Health Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has conducted a survey revealing Dengue larvae in 1,450 properties, resulting in fines totaling Rs 72,000 imposed on property holders. A dedicated team has been formed to conduct regular inspections, including in garages and construction sites.

With the onset of the monsoon season, there has been a surge in cases of Dengue, Malaria, and other epidemic diseases. In response, the PCMC Health Department has launched a campaign targeting breeding grounds for Dengue mosquitoes, such as homes, old and new constructions, scrap yards, garages, and tyre shops. Since June 1st, inspections have covered 111,115 properties, identifying Dengue larvae in 1,450 instances and issuing fines totaling Rs 72,000. Additionally, 282 garages and scrap shops, along with 280 construction sites, were inspected, resulting in 585 notices issued for failure to maintain cleanliness.

Moreover, Pimpri Chinchwad has recently experienced a change in atmospheric conditions, leading to an increase in respiratory illnesses. The number of severe cases has risen to 11,193, with 480 suspected cases of Dengue and 16 suspected cases of Chikungunya reported.

Yashwant Dange, Assistant Commissioner of the PCMC’s Health Department, stated, “The city is currently undergoing a thorough survey by our department. Each ward office has deployed a team of five members conducting daily inspections of scrap shops, tyre shops, construction sites, and housing societies. Dengue larvae have been notably found in housing societies and construction sites. A fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed if Dengue larvae are discovered at construction sites. Citizens are urged to ensure there is no stagnant water in their surroundings.”
