Pimpri Chinchwad, 26th September 2024: The proposed ‘Biodiversity Park’ in Talawade aims to elevate the profile of Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Covering roughly 70 acres, this initiative seeks to revitalize the local ecosystem. The project recently received approval from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner Shekhar Singh during a meeting of the standing committee.

Mahesh Landge, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA representing the Bhosari assembly constituency, has played a pivotal role in advocating for the Biodiversity Park’s development. His dedicated efforts with both the municipal corporation and the state government have finally yielded results. Funding for the park is expected to come from the state government’s “Majhi Vasundhara” initiative, alongside contributions from the central government.

A PCMC official highlighted that the Biodiversity Park will promote sustainable coexistence between people and nature. The park will feature restoration projects, educational initiatives, and community involvement, showcasing the impactful role of responsible environmental management. This rejuvenated landscape is expected to significantly enhance the city’s visual appeal, emphasizing that preserving biodiversity is a shared duty.

As part of the Majhi Vasundhara campaign, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation recently earned the top award in the Amrut Group at the state level, along with accolades for exceptional performance in the thematic park category. The project has a budget allocation of ₹10 crore, with ongoing efforts to secure further funding from the state government for the Biodiversity Park’s development.

The Biodiversity Park is designed to span around 70 acres and will include the planting of native trees and the establishment of forest areas. It aims to create habitats for diverse animal and bird species. Key features of the park will include soil conservation initiatives, thematic tree planting, an entrance gate, bird nest walls, parking facilities, a golf cart and bicycle station, three entrance plazas, an amphitheatre, a souvenir shop, workshops, cafes, a butterfly garden, riparian and wetland areas, an orchidarium, a thematic park highlighting colours and core forest areas, restrooms, bio-disaster management systems, kiosks, stream crossings, ecological awareness signage, benches, lighting, pathways, picnic spots, a restaurant area, bridge lighting, visibility lighting, a public address system, and waste management facilities.

Landge remarked, “Humanity faces the challenge of mitigating environmental pollution and preventing the degradation of our planet. With the ongoing development of the Chikhali-Moshi-Charholi Residential Corridor and various housing projects, it is crucial to maintain ecological balance. We aim to preserve and enhance biodiversity in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area through collaboration among the municipal corporation, state government, and central government, ensuring the conservation of natural ecosystems. Future generations deserve clean air and a healthy environment. Therefore, we have initiated the Biodiversity Park’s development. The municipal administration has already taken steps in this direction, and I believe this project will attract tourists globally. I hope the tendering process will conclude soon so that construction can begin.”
