Overdue Electricity Bills Lead To Power Cut For 16,000 Customers In Pune

Pune, 9th May 2023: In an effort to recover outstanding payments, electricity supply has been cut off to 16,413 defaulters in the Pune circle who have not paid their electricity bills for three months.

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), along with regular disconnection action, is carrying out the campaign to disconnect electricity supply if consumers do not pay overdue bills immediately.

A list of household, commercial, and industrial defaulters with arrears of more than Rs 500 has been prepared, and it was observed that 87,511 electricity consumers have not paid a single electricity bill in three months, with arrears of Rs 42.63 crores. The campaign, which began last April, has resulted in the disconnection of 16,413 defaulters with arrears of Rs 13.37 crores. Another 71,098 customers have outstanding balances of Rs 29.28 crores, and disconnection action is ongoing.

In Pune city, 26,796 household, commercial, and industrial consumers have arrears of Rs 11.81 crores, with 6,536 customers disconnected due to arrears of Rs 4.71 crores. The remaining 20,260 customers will be disconnected if they do not pay the outstanding amount of Rs 7.12 crores immediately.

In Pimpri Chinchwad city, 16,300 consumers have not paid Rs 10.91 crores in outstanding bills for the last three months. So far, 3,209 electricity consumers have been disconnected due to arrears of Rs 3.5 crores, while another 13,091 consumers are being disconnected due to arrears of Rs 7.41 crores.

In the rural areas of Ambegaon, Junnar, Maval, Khed, Mulshi, Velhe, and Haveli talukas, 44,415 domestic, commercial, and industrial electricity consumers have not paid outstanding bills of Rs 19.91 crores. Electricity supply to 6,669 customers has been disconnected due to arrears of Rs 5.16 crores, while the remaining 37,747 electricity consumers have arrears of Rs 14.75 crores, and the electricity supply is being interrupted.

If the concerned defaulters are found using electricity from neighbors or other places through wire or cable after disconnection of electricity supply, action is taken against the neighbors and related defaulters as per section 135/138 of the Indian Electricity Act 2003.

MSEDCL has appealed to cooperate by paying overdue electricity bills immediately and to avoid the drastic action of disconnecting the electricity supply.
