Pune, 24th October 2024: More than 7,000 employees and officers of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have been appointed to handle election work across eight assembly constituencies in Pune city.

There are 8,462 polling booths in the district for the upcoming assembly elections, with approximately 2,500 of these booths located within Pune city limits, serving over 21 lakh voters. To ensure convenience for citizens, the Election Commission is focusing on setting up polling stations closer to residential areas, including large societies with spacious halls.

The nomination process for the elections has begun, and eight election offices have been established for the eight constituencies in the city. A large workforce is required to increase voter turnout and handle tasks such as fixed team assignments, mobile team duties, account verification, application processing, and document verification. Additionally, with the increase in polling stations, each room at a center now requires at least five staff members.

Out of the 17,000 employees working for the PMC, those from departments such as sanitation, health, water supply, and solid waste management have been exempt from election duties, while employees from other departments have been called to assist with the election work.

Currently, over 7,000 employees have been assigned to election-related duties. This includes approximately 4,750 workers from classes one to three, 2,200 municipal school teachers, and other staff from various departments.
