Pune, 23rd July 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast two more days of heavy rains in the coastal and Western Ghats areas, with the coastal rainfall expected to taper off from Friday (July 26). Light rains were observed across the rest of the Maharashtra state on Tuesday.

The low-pressure area over East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh has dissipated, transforming into a cyclonic system, reducing the amount of rainfall in Vidarbha. However, a low-pressure belt remains active along the coast, leading to continued rainfall in coastal regions.

A red alert has been issued for Raigad and Satara for Wednesday, while an orange alert has been issued for Nashik, Pune, and other coastal districts. Heavy rainfall is expected primarily in coastal and Western Ghats areas. Rain intensity is predicted to decrease in Madhya Maharashtra, except for the Ghat areas, and along the coast from Friday (July 26).

In the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Tuesday, Tamhini recorded 270 mm of rain, while Talsari in Palghar received 200 mm.
