Rising number of vehicles, narrow roads, excavations for development and inefficient passenger transport systems have resulted in traffic congestion.

Now the traffic branch officers in Koregaon Park, Jangli Maharaj Road, Baner, Chatushrungi, Swargate, Market yard, Hadapsar, and Kothrud divisions will have to work at night as well.

In most areas, the manual signal system is operational after 10 pm when there are less vehicles on the roads. However, automatic signals are active at Koregaon Park, University chowk, Swargate, Jangali Maharaj Road and some other congested areas till 1 am. Therefore, the officers will have to work in three shifts to speed up the traffic regulation.

According to officials, the city has a large number of youths including students and employees working in various companies. Most of them plan parties every Saturday and Sunday especially at Mundhwa, Koregaon Park, Baner, central places, etc., and heavy traffic is observed till 2 am. As a result, many had to face traffic congestion.

Against this backdrop, the officials of the concerned traffic division will have to stay awake till late at night and regulate traffic instead of taking action. The administration has instructed the officials to provide assistance to the drivers by resolving the traffic congestion in the area. This will help in easing traffic congestion during the rainy season.
