NIA Detains Pune College Student Linked to ISIS-Associated Telegram Group

Swargate, 18th December 2023: The National Investigative Agency (NIA) today detained a 19-year-old youth from Gultekdi area of Pune. The NIA team seized mobile phones and electronic devices during the operation.

He is under investigation for his alleged involvement in a Telegram group associated with an ISIS module based in Bengaluru. Sources suggest that the group has over 2000 members. NIA authorities claim that the youth was actively downloading information from the group, leading to suspicions of his association with ISIS. He is a student of a private college in Camp, Pune.

The NIA’s actions follow recent raids in Mumbai and Pune, marking a continued crackdown on potential terrorist activities in the state.

A simultaneous midnight raid was also conducted in Amravati’s Achalpur town, resulting in the detention of a student suspected of being involved in terrorist activities. The individual, the son of a teacher, is currently undergoing thorough investigation at the Jog Sports Complex Police Headquarters in Amravati.
