‘New Pune Nagarvikas Parishad’ Conclave Held to Discuss Pune’s Urban Development

Kharadi, 2nd September 2024: As Pune continues to expand rapidly across various sectors, experts emphasized the need for a fresh approach to urban development during the ‘New Pune Urban Development Conclave’ held on August 31 in Kharadi, Pune. The event, organized by Surendra Pathare, president of the Surendra Pathare Foundation, brought together specialists from different fields to discuss sustainable growth strategies for the city.

Pune, known both as the cultural capital and an emerging IT hub, is facing the challenge of balancing rapid expansion with quality of life. Speakers at the conclave, including retired IAS officer Mahesh Zagde, Pune Police’s Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil, Joint Director of the Maharashtra Health Department Dr. Pradeep Awte, and media professionals such as Samrat Phadnis of Sakal Media Group, Pudhari Pune Resident Editor Sunil Mali, Maharashtra Times Pune Resident Editor Shridhar Loni, stressed the importance of integrating public participation at all levels of governance—from local self-government bodies to state and central authorities.

The conclave focused on long-term planning to ensure adequate infrastructure for Pune’s growing population. Key topics included the role of public engagement in solving urban problems, promoting a comprehensive approach to public health, and integrating urban forestry into sustainable development strategies.

“Today’s rapidly changing environment requires innovative ideas, especially from the youth. There is a need for new concepts and sustainable approaches to development. The New Pune Urban Development Conclave serves as a platform to brainstorm these ideas, which will significantly benefit the city’s future,” said Surendra Pathare.

This event marks the second edition of the Pune City Development Conclave, with the first held in 2022 under Pathare’s initiative. This year’s conclave expanded to include not only experts but also active participation from citizens, making it a pivotal event for Pune’s urban development.
