New Electricity Connections Reach Record 2.33 Lakh in Pune Circle

Pune, 4th December 2023: Demonstrating a commitment to ‘Ease of Living,’ the Pune circle of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has achieved a remarkable milestone by commissioning a record 2,33,609 new electricity connections from December 2022 to November 2023. This marks a significant acceleration, considering that the average monthly speed of new connections was 15,000 to 16,000 in the preceding two to three years. Now, the monthly rate has surged to 19,900.

State Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, advocated for expediting customer service aligned with ‘ease of living.’ Responding to this directive, Chairman and Managing Director of MSEDCL, Lokesh Chandra, prioritized customer service enhancements, particularly in addressing grievances and facilitating new power connections. Continuous reviews are being conducted in this regard by Director (Operation), Sanjay Taksande.

In the fiscal year 2022-23, Pune circle witnessed the addition of 1,95,986 new electricity connections. Comparatively, the average monthly connections in the previous fiscal years ranged from 15,350 to 16,350. The accelerated pace of new connections from December 2022 to November 2023 resulted in an operational total of 2,33,609. In the current fiscal year, 1,59,209 new electricity connections across all categories have been commissioned from April to November, demonstrating an increased average of 19,900 per month.

Chief Engineer, Rajendra Pawar, is overseeing the review process, contributing to the expedited provision of new electricity connections. The recorded 2,33,609 connections during December 2022 to November 2023 include domestic (1,97,180), commercial (26,739), industrial (3,821), agricultural (2,829), and others (3,040).

Pune circle ensures an abundant supply of new electricity meters. Consumers are advised to directly contact the Executive Engineer of the concerned department for any issues regarding electricity meters or new connections. MSEDCL emphasizes that consumers do not need to purchase meters from the market.

Launchpad

Under the ‘PMA’ scheme, all electricity connections have been promptly implemented based on demand. Houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have received immediate new electricity connections from Mahavitran after payment of the quotation amount. This includes 6,818 new electricity connections for houses in Borhadewadi (1,296), Jadhavwadi Sector 12 (3,722), Vadgaon Khurd (815), Kharadi (865), and Ramtekdi (120). No pending new electricity connections are reported in this scheme after the payment of quotations.

Chief Engineer, Rajendra Pawar, states, “The implementation of customer service as per ‘Ease of Living’ is underway, with a focus on expediting new power connections. Departmental office-wise reviews are conducted every Monday and Thursday at the circle level, contributing to the significant increase in the monthly rate of new electricity connections from 15,000 to 16,000 a year ago to the current 19,900 per month.”
