Pune, 4th July 2024: Fifty-six NEET-UG candidates from Gujarat have approached the Supreme Court seeking to halt the examination due to alleged paper leaks. The petitioners, including top scorers, urged directives from the Central Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) to address the issue. They emphasized the need for the Ministry of Education to conduct a thorough investigation to identify those responsible for the leak and ensure stringent action against them. The petition, filed by Siddharth Komal Singla and 55 others through advocate Devendra Singh, highlights concerns over the integrity of the examination process.

The students’ plea comes amidst growing concerns over the fairness of the NEET-UG examination, crucial for admission to medical colleges across India. They argue that the alleged paper leak has compromised the merit-based selection process, affecting thousands of aspirants nationwide. The petitioners, who achieved high ranks in the exam, assert that immediate intervention is necessary to uphold the credibility and transparency of the examination system.

According to the petition, the leaked papers have caused distress among candidates and raised questions about the security measures during the conduct of NEET-UG. The petitioners have requested the Supreme Court to intervene promptly, ensuring that the interests of all affected students are safeguarded. They seek assurances from the authorities regarding the fairness of future examinations and accountability for those found responsible for the breach.

In response to the petition, advocate Devendra Singh emphasized the urgency of the matter, stressing that swift action is crucial to maintain public trust in the education system. He cited previous instances where similar allegations led to significant reforms in examination procedures, underscoring the need for robust safeguards against malpractice.

The Supreme Court is expected to review the petition in the coming days, with stakeholders closely monitoring developments amidst calls for transparency and accountability in India’s competitive examination landscape.
