Pune, 11th June 2024: The Supreme Court will hear a crucial petition today, June 11, 2024, regarding the cancellation and re-conduction of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024. This follows widespread protests across the country over alleged discrepancies in the results announced on June 4. The petition, filed by Dr. Vivek Pandey, Shivangi Mishra, and other students, seeks the court’s intervention to order the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct the exam again.

The hearing will be conducted by Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ehsanuddin Amanullah. The petition, submitted on June 1, highlights ongoing investigations by the Bihar police into allegations of a NEET UG 2024 paper leak. Despite these concerns, the NTA released the results on June 4, with 67 students scoring a perfect 720 out of 720 marks, including six from the same exam center.

Additional Petitions on NEET UG 2024

Another petition under Article 32 of the Constitution has been filed by Jaripete Karthik, a NEET UG applicant from Andhra Pradesh. This petition challenges the NTA’s decision to award grace marks to 1,536 students. Lawyers Y. Balaji and Chirag Sharma, representing Karthik, have requested an “urgent hearing” on this issue.

In a similar vein, Abdul Mohammed and Dr. Shaik Roshan from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have filed another petition against the NTA’s decision to grant grace marks to several students. The petitioners argue that there is no logical basis for the grace marks, deeming it a waste of time. They also pointed out that the NEET UG 2024 information bulletin did not mention any provision for grace marks.

The Supreme Court’s decision on these petitions is highly anticipated, as it will significantly impact the future of NEET UG 2024 and the students affected by the alleged discrepancies. The court’s ruling could determine whether the exam will be re-conducted or if the current results will stand, thereby influencing the upcoming counseling process for medical, dental, AYUSH, and nursing undergraduate admissions.
