National Security Overhaul: Amit Shah Pushes for Integrated Agency Approach

New Delhi, 19th July 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah led a high-level meeting with heads of security and law enforcement agencies to assess the Multi Agency Centre (MAC) of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), responsible for addressing national security challenges, in New Delhi today.

Home Minister Shah urged agency leaders to adopt a comprehensive, government-wide strategy for national security, emphasizing the importance of greater coordination among agencies to dismantle terror networks and their support systems in response to evolving security threats.

In reviewing the country’s internal security and counter-terrorism efforts, Shah called for enhanced participation in the Multi Agency Centre. He emphasized transforming MAC into a unified platform that integrates law enforcement, anti-drug, cyber security, and intelligence agencies for decisive and timely actions.

Shah highlighted that MAC has gained the trust of its members and must continue operating around the clock as a proactive platform for real-time sharing of actionable intelligence among various stakeholders, including frontline responders.

During the meeting, the Home Minister also proposed forming a team of young, technically skilled, and dedicated officers from all national security agencies to dismantle the terror ecosystem using Big Data and AI/ML-driven analytics and technological advancements. He stressed the need for staying ahead of emerging security challenges with innovative responses.

Shah further mentioned that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the MAC framework is set for significant technical and operational upgrades to enhance its reach and effectiveness. He urged all stakeholders to support these efforts with prompt responses and rigorous follow-up on shared intelligence.
