National Award-Winning Filmmaker Vivek Wagh Passes Away in Pune

Pune, 18th July 2024: Vivek Wagh, a veteran actor, producer, and director from Pune, passed away suddenly at the age of 54 in a private hospital. He is survived by his mother, wife, daughter, and son-in-law. Wagh had decided to donate his organs posthumously. In 2021, his documentary received a National Award.

Vivek Wagh had a longstanding association with theatre and cinema in Pune. He served as the executive producer for the film “Checkmate” and was involved in productions with Professional Theatrical Productions. Additionally, he directed films such as “Maza Bhirbhira” and “Siddhant.” A few years ago, he was honored with a National Award for his investigative documentary “Jakkal,” which centred on the Joshi-Abhyankar serial murders. He also adapted this documentary into a web series titled “Jakkal.”

Recently, Wagh produced a documentary titled “Stone and Age,” focusing on carvings in Konkan. His decision to donate his organs has been noted by his relatives, who announced that his cremation will take place this evening at Vaikunth Smashan Bhoomi in Sadashiv Peth, Pune.

Actor Milind Shintre shared the news of Vivek Wagh’s passing, highlighting his contributions to the Marathi theatre industry. According to Shintre’s post, “Vivek Wagh, the renowned producer and director, passed away at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune. It has been decided to donate organs after his demise.”
