Nagpur Prisoners Train in Cooking and Housekeeping for a Fresh Start

Nagpur, 21st March 2025: In a significant step towards rehabilitation and skill development, a short-term training program in Multi-Cuisine Cooking and Housekeeping Services was successfully conducted for male and female prisoners in Nagpur. The initiative was carried out under the guidance of Suhas Warke, Additional Director General of Police and Inspector General, Prisons and Correctional Services, Maharashtra State, Pune, and Dr. Jalinder Supekar, Special Inspector General of Police, Prisons and Correctional Services, Eastern Region, Nagpur.

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) training was organized in collaboration with Tata Strive Institute and was held from March 19 to March 21, 2025. The program aimed to equip inmates with practical skills, enhancing their employment prospects post-release.

Training Overview
Male prisoners received hands-on training in multi-cuisine cooking, including food safety, hygiene, and dish preparation.
Female prisoners underwent skill development in housekeeping services.
The training also included personality development sessions, enhancing overall employability.
A total of 60 prisoners (30 male and 30 female) benefited from the program.
During the training, Jail Superintendent Vaibhav Aage addressed the inmates, emphasizing the importance of skill-building for a better future. He expressed confidence that the certified training, provided by the Skill Department, would open doors for employment opportunities in related industries upon the prisoners’ release.

Jail Officials: Vaibhav Aage (Superintendent), Deepa Vaibhav Aage (Assistant Superintendent), Shridhar Kale (Deputy Superintendent), and Anand Pansare (Senior Prison Officer).
Tata Strive Representatives: Yogesh Khirale (Center Manager), Raju Sonekar (Center Coordinator), Sumit Dabrase, Kajal Bharatwade, and Reena Marotkar (Trainers).
Social Workers & Staff: Meena Latkar, Krishna Padvi, Dhanpal Meshram, Laxman Salve, and Prison Teacher Sanjay Jadhav.
The initiative marks a progressive step towards inmate rehabilitation, ensuring that prisoners gain valuable skills to support their reintegration into society.
