Nadaaniyan: Ibrahim Ali Khan, Khushi Kapoor’s Netflix Rom-Com Receives Mixed Reviews

Mumbai, 7th March 2025: Netflix’s latest romantic comedy “Nadaaniyan,” starring debutant Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, has garnered mixed reactions from critics and audiences alike since its release today. The film, produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, attempts to capture the essence of Gen-Z romance but falls short in several aspects according to some reviewers.
Directed by first-timer Shauna Gautam, “Nadaaniyan” revolves around the story of Pia Jaisingh (Khushi Kapoor) and Arjun Mehta (Ibrahim Ali Khan), two students from different socioeconomic backgrounds at an elite Delhi school. The plot centers on a fake dating arrangement between the two, with Pia offering Arjun Rs 25,000 per week to pretend to be her boyfriend.
While some critics praise the film for its attempt to portray modern young love, others find it lacking in depth and originality. The Koimoi review gives the movie 3.5 stars, commending the chemistry between the lead actors and the film’s relatability to Gen-Z audiences. However, NDTV’s review describes it as “passably lively but spectacularly shallow,” criticizing its superficial treatment of serious themes.
The movie’s soundtrack has received positive feedback, with reviewers noting that all tracks work well within the film’s context. The supporting cast, including veteran actors Jugal Hansraj, Dia Mirza, Mahima Chaudhry, and Suniel Shetty, has also been praised for their performances.
Despite its shortcomings, “Nadaaniyan” has been recognized for its attempt to fill the void of school-college romances in Bollywood, a genre that has been largely absent since films like “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na” and “Student of the Year”. However, some critics argue that the movie fails to accurately represent the aspirations and challenges of the Gen-Z demographic it aims to portray.
As debates continue over the film’s merits and flaws, “Nadaaniyan” remains a topic of discussion among movie enthusiasts and critics alike. The film is now available for streaming on Netflix, allowing viewers to form their own opinions on this latest addition to the romantic comedy genre.
