Morning Walk – FIRs registered against people out for morning walk, given ‘murga’ punishment

Pune/Pimpri, April 18, 2020: In early morning operation across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, police officials intercepted people going for a morning walk. FIRs were registered against over 50 people.

In Yerwada, FIRs have been registered against 40 people today. They were asked to stay at home and come out only when it is necessary. According to the order of senior officials, Yerwada Police station set up a team to take action against people violating lockdown rule like those going for morning walk.

Similar action was taken at Moshi where 13 persons are booked under IPC section 188 for doing morning walk. Police subjected several lockdown violators to ‘murga’ (rooster) punishment also.

Officers from the police stations said that the action was taken as per the orders of Police Commissioner and Joint Commissioner as people were violating lockdown order of staying at home.

Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) Ravindra Shisve had told Punekarnews.in, “we have got many complains about morning walkers that they are violating the lockdown rule. Therefore, we have instructed the police station and Crime Branch to take action against such people. We are also appointing chairman/secretary of housing societies as Special Police Officer (SPO) to keep watch on people who violate the lockdown order.”
