Monsoon Vacation Turns Deadly: 5 Family Members Swept Away; Three Bodies Recovered, Two Missing at Bhushi Dam, Lonavala

Pune, 30th June 2024: A tragic incident occurred today at the popular Bhushi Dam in Lonavala, where five members of a family from Sayyednagar in Hadapsar were swept away by strong currents in the waterfall behind the dam. The incident happened around 1 pm while the family was enjoying a monsoon vacation in the area.

The Lonavala Police reported that the family, including children and women, were caught off guard by the sudden surge of water.

Tourists flock to Lonavala from all corners of the state during the monsoon season, and the heavy rainfall has caused the Bhushi Dam to overflow, attracting numerous visitors.

Names of people who drowned:

1) Shahista Liaquat Ansari Age 36 (Female)
2) Amima Adil Ansari Age 13 (Female)
3) Adnan Sabhahat Ansari Age 04 (Male)
4) Maria Akil Syed Age 09 (Female)
5) Umera Adil Ansari Age 08 (Female)

Three bodies have been found as follows in the search operation carried out today:

1) Shahista Liaquat Ansari
2) Amima Adil Ansari
3) Mera Adil Ansari

Those still missing:

1) Adnan Sabhahat Ansari
2) Maria Akil Syed
