Monsoon Data Reveals Mixed Rainfall Trends in Pune District

Pune, 26th August 2023: The Pune district has witnessed a cumulative rainfall of 443.9 mm during the first three months of this year’s monsoon season. This accounts for 66.3 percent of the total average rainfall anticipated for this period. As a comparison, this year’s rainfall marks an increase from the corresponding period last year, which saw 322.8 mm of rain.

To provide context, during the same timeframe last year, the overall rainfall in Pune district amounted to 766.7 mm, surpassing the average by 114.5 percent.

Analysis of the rainfall statistics report issued by the district administration highlights a noteworthy 14.5 percent discrepancy between last year’s precipitation and the average rainfall percentage for the initial monsoon months.

During this ongoing monsoon season, only three talukas – Bhor, Maval, and Ambegaon – have recorded above-average rainfall. Conversely, Baramati and Purandar talukas have received less than half of the expected average rainfall.

The historical data indicates that the typical average rainfall in Pune district from June 1 to August 26 amounts to 669.7 mm, whereas the actual rainfall during this period this year stands at 443.9 mm.

The daily tracking of rainfall commences on June 1 each year, overseen by the District Superintendent of Agriculture’s office. Consequently, the office releases a nightly report encompassing data on taluka-specific daily rainfall, cumulative monthly average rainfall, and the comparison between actual and anticipated rainfall figures.

For the city of Pune, the last three months have seen a total of 256.1 mm of rainfall. In contrast, the average rainfall expected for this period in the city is 450.2 mm, translating to a rainfall of 56.9 percent.
