Miraj: RPF Constable Assaulted at Lonand Station; One Accused Arrested, Two on the Run

Lonand, 13th April 2025: An on-duty Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable was physically assaulted at Lonand railway station during night hours on April 11-12, 2025. The incident resulted in serious injuries to the constable and led to the arrest of one of the accused, while two others remain absconding.

Constable Jai Prakash, son of Amrit Nishad and posted at RPF Outpost Lonand, was on night duty from 20:00 hrs to 08:00 hrs. During his patrol, he encountered a man, later identified as Sanjay Raju Pawar, sleeping in an intoxicated state near the station’s ticket counter. When advised to leave the premises and return home, the individual reportedly abused the constable verbally and left the spot.

Approximately 10 to 15 minutes later, Sanjay returned with his brother, Nihal, and their mother. The trio allegedly attacked the constable. According to reports, Sanjay’s mother struck the constable’s leg with a hard plastic pipe, while Nihal hit him on the head with a wooden stick, resulting in bleeding and a head injury. The assault continued with punches and kicks, also causing injury to the constable’s right arm.

The injured constable was immediately taken to Siddhivinayak Hospital & Critical Care, Lonand, by the on-duty pointsman. He is currently out of danger and under medical treatment.

Following the incident, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (SDSC) Pune, Priyanka Sharma, and Superintendent of Railway Police, Tushar Doshi, visited the site and met the injured constable at the hospital.

A case was registered on April 12, 2025, at the Government Railway Police (GRP), Miraj, under Crime No. 27/2025. The charges include Sections 3(5), 109(1), 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – 2023, and Section 147 of the Railways Act. The investigation is being led by Police Inspector Shri S.S. Kale of GRP/Miraj.

A joint RPF-GRP team was formed to expedite the arrest of the suspects. One accused, Sanjay Raju Pawar, has been arrested. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the remaining two accused.
