Ahmednagar/Pune, 15th August 2024: In a significant breakthrough, the Bhingar Camp Police Station in Ahmednagar arrested an individual named Vijay Bisht on August 14, for his involvement in a fraudulent recruitment racket targeting Army and Civil Defence employment. The arrest was made following specific intelligence inputs provided by the Military Intelligence (MI) unit of the Army’s Southern Command, Pune.

Bisht, who is a cook at an Army establishment, was found to be running a scam where he lured dependents of Army personnel and civilian candidates, including a woman, by falsely claiming connections with senior Army officers who could allegedly secure them positions as clerks and tradesmen in the Army and Defence Civil services. Exploiting the trust of his victims, Bisht demanded a sum of ₹2 lakh from each candidate, promising them employment. Till now, he has taken Rs 8.3 lakh from four candidates.

The victims, hailing from Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Ahmednagar, were subjected to fake medical examinations at Anand Rishi Hospital in Ahmednagar, further perpetuating the illusion of a legitimate recruitment process.

An FIR has been registered against the accused. The authorities are now investigating the extent of Bisht’s operations, including the potential involvement of others in the racket.

The action was taken by Ahmednagar Police under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola, Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Khaire and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Amol Bharti. The team included Assistant Police Inspector Jagdish Mulgir and police personnel Sandeep Ghodke, Deepak Shinde, Ravi Takle, Misal and Lahare.
