Matka: Clay Water Pots Witness Surge In Demand As Pune Braces For Summer Heat
Pune, 4th April 2024: As the summer heat begins to intensify, there is a noticeable rise in the demand for black clay pots, particularly for cooling water. Despite the prevalence of modern technology, many citizens still prefer the traditional method of storing water in Maath/Matka or black clay pots, as it is believed to offer health benefits.
The onset of summer has spurred an increased demand for Water Pots, often referred to as the “fridge” of the poor. With not everyone able to afford refrigerators for cold drinking water, Water Pots remain a popular choice among the general populace.
In Avasari Budruk (Taluka Ambegaon), six families are engaged in large-scale Pot production, renowned for their craftsmanship in making clay pots. These finished pots are then supplied in bulk to traders in Manchar, Khed, Shirur, Junnar, Pune, and Pimpri Chinchwad. Prices range from Rs 150 to Rs 175 for a standard-sized pot, while larger variants pots fetch prices ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 600.
