Materials Management on Central Railway during Covid-19
Mumbai, 4 May 2020- Materials Management Department of Central Railway has been continuously working 24 x 7 by way of making available materials timely to all consuming departments of Central Railway through procurement. Apart from physical distribution of materials, the department has switched over to extensive use of online platforms (iMMIS, iREPS & others).
In order to bolster Central Railway’s preparedness to fight Covid-19, Material Management officials have been floating tenders and purchasing critical items and equipments for Railway hospitals and open-line staff within short durations. Critical items for Covid-19 include life-saving medical equipments like PPE kits, N-95 masks, gloves, sanitizers which are crucial for preventing infection to our frontline staff deployed at various locations.
Material Management teams in various divisional offices have also gone the extra mile to make centralized emergency purchases and arranged for physical transportation and distribution at various locations.
Stores depots have been ensuring availability of all vital spares and consumables required for operations and maintenance of electric & diesel loco holdings for freight and parcel trains transporting essential goods across the country. Goods like raw materials have also been provided for shop manufacture of Covid-19 essentials including coveralls, in addition to supplies for modification of railway coaches for use of Covid-19 patients.
