Pune, 31st October 2023: In the wake of widespread protests and growing tensions over the Maratha reservation and Manoj Jarange’s ongoing hunger strike, heightened vigilance has been put in place across Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and rural areas in the region. Violent demonstrations have erupted at various locations across the state, prompting authorities to take preventive measures.

Security personnel have been deployed at approximately 200 to 250 critical locations, including the residences of MLAs, MPs, political party leaders, Zilla Parishad members, and office bearers in these constituencies. The security apparatus is being closely monitored to prevent any untoward incidents. Additionally, law enforcement agencies are keeping a watchful eye on social media channels, with a commitment to take direct action against any offensive content or incitement of violence.

The police have compiled a list of sensitive areas within the district, covering both urban and rural regions, as the Maratha community’s demand for reservation intensifies. Manoj Jarange’s hunger strike at Antarwali Sarati continues, with concerns mounting over his deteriorating health.

In a disturbing development, protesters in Beed set fire to the residences of Majalgaon MLA Prakash Solunke and Beed MLA Sandeep Kshirsagar on Monday. Party offices also fell victim to arson. Similar demonstrations are occurring outside the homes of elected representatives in Solapur, Yavatmal, and the rural Beed region. Given these incidents and the prevailing tensions, the police presence has been significantly increased in both Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad to maintain law and order.
