Viman Nagar, 12th August 2024: Pune City Police has arrested a 27-year-old man, Saleem Golekhan, for allegedly attempting to board a flight using a forged airline ticket at Pune Airport on Sunday. The incident unfolded as Saleem, who intended to travel to Lucknow, tried to accompany his father, who had a legitimate ticket for the journey.

Saleem, a resident of Mohan Nagar in Chinchwad with family ties in Uttar Pradesh, was detained after airport security flagged his ticket at the airline counter. The ticket, which contained a suspicious PNR number, failed to pass scrutiny by the airline staff, leading to his arrest.

Senior Police Inspector Ajay Sankeshwari, in-charge of the Vimantal police station commented on the case: “Our preliminary investigation suggests that Saleem’s father had booked a valid return flight to Lucknow. Saleem, who had come to the airport to see him off, used a fake ticket in an attempt to board the flight himself. The airline’s staff quickly identified the discrepancy and alerted authorities, resulting in his detention.”

In addition to Saleem’s arrest, police have also implicated a travel agent, Nasseruddin Khan, from Shravasti in Uttar Pradesh. Khan is accused of facilitating the creation of the forged ticket. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to examine all elements of the case.
