Makar Sankranti Surprise: Pune Police Busts Sword Cake Cutting Celebration, Makes Arrests

Dhankawadi, 16th January 2024: On the occasion of Makar Sankranti 2024, the Sahakar Nagar Police Station’s detection branch, including officials and constables undertook a proactive effort to ensure public safety and prevent potential criminal activities. Constable Mandalik, relying on his sources, received information that a group of individuals near the CNG petrol pump at KK Market, Dhankawadi, had gathered with iron swords and Koytas, apparently intending to use them for a cake-cutting ceremony.

Acting swiftly, the police constable alerted his seniors, and the investigation team from Sahakar Nagar Police Station was dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, the team conducted a raid and discovered a person holding an iron weapon, with two cakes placed on a two-wheeler seat in front of him. Several individuals were gathered around the scene.

Upon inquiry, it was revealed that Aditya Kashinath Sabale (18), Rutik Raju Jadhav (19), Rohit Raju Ghorpade (23, a native of Ahmednagar), all residents of Dhankawadi, and Aditya Ganesh Kshirsagar (19, resident of Katraj), along with a minor holding an iron sword, were celebrating a birthday. Aditya Sabale admitted that the iron weapons were intended for cutting the birthday cake.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the iron swords were functional. A case has been registered against the individuals under the Arms Act 4(25), Maharashtra Police Act 37(1), 135. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Upper Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Smartana Patil, Assistant Commissioner of Police Narayan Shirgavkar, Sahakar Nagar Police Station Senior Police Inspector Surendra Malale, and Police Inspector (Crime) Sandeep Deshmane.
