Maharashtra To Launch State Wildlife Action Plan For The First Time

Pune, April 2, 2021: For the first time, the Maharashtra Government has decided to form a Maharashtra Wildlife Action Plan. From increasing the states forest cover to protecting wildlife, the plan will jot out the State Government’s policy for the next 10 years.

 

The Forest Department will work with researchers and experts from the field to create this action plan. The Government has selected a total of 12 subjects to be dealt with under the same. Some of these are Conservation of threatened species, control of poaching and illegal wildlife trade, Human-wildlife conflict mitigation and rescue, Conservation of inland and coastal and aquatic ecosystems, Management of tourism in wildlife areas, Conservation awareness and outreach, etc.

 

Around 60 members participated in the formation of the plan, which will be released in the next two months. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Nitin Kakodkar and Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Sunil Limaye held a meeting with the committee members in the first week of March. The plan has been made for the duration of 10 years, 2021 to 2031, and it will be implemented in three phases – three years, five years and 10 years.
