Maharashtra: Private Sports Academies Invited to Submit Proposals for Financial Assistance Under ‘Mission Lakshavedh’

Mumbai, 3rd April 2025: The Maharashtra Government has launched the ambitious ‘Mission Lakshavedh’ initiative to enable state athletes to win medals in international sports competitions such as the Olympics. As part of this mission, private sports academies have been urged to submit proposals for financial assistance.
The state is committed to fostering a robust sports culture, promoting talented athletes, and providing modern sports training infrastructure. The initiative encompasses various elements, including advanced training systems, sports medicine facilities, organizing competitions, offering awards and incentives, career guidance for athletes, and capacity building through collaboration with domestic and international coaches and institutions.
Under ‘Mission Lakshavedh,’ financial support will be extended to private academies that excel in producing top athletes in 12 selected sports disciplines: athletics, archery, badminton, boxing, hockey, lawn tennis, rowing, shooting, sailing, table tennis, weightlifting, and wrestling. This funding aims to empower these academies to enhance their capabilities.
Academies will be evaluated based on their athletes’ performance, coaching staff quality, available infrastructure for training, sports equipment standards, and overall achievements. Based on the evaluation scores, the academies will be categorized into three classes:
– ‘Class C’ (35–50 points) will receive Rs 10 lakh annually,
– ‘Class B’ (51–75 points) will receive Rs 20 lakh annually,
– ‘Class A’ (76–100 points) will receive Rs 30 lakh annually.
The financial assistance can be utilized for establishing sports infrastructure, upgrading facilities, paying coaches’ salaries, and purchasing training equipment. Interested academies are encouraged to contact their respective District Sports Officer’s office for detailed information and application forms. This announcement was made by Sudhir More, Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Services.
