Maharashtra leading in providing facilities to sanitation workers : Dilip Hathibed

Mumbai, Aug 30, 2019 : Various facilities and conveniences are being provided to sanitation workers in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and as compared to other states Maharashtra is leading in this area, said Member of National Sanitation Workers’ Commission Dilip Hathibed here at a press conference held at Mantralaya today.

Shri Hathibed said that the National Sanitation Workers’ Commission is on a visit to Maharashtra since last 2-3 days and has held meetings with various government officers and sanitation workers’ organizations. These sanitation workers are performing better in Swachh Bharat Mission. It is the duty of the state government to provide better facilities and amenities to these sanitation workers and the state government is doing this in a much better way, he said. He further said that certain issues of these sanitation workers are still unaddressed and discussions were held with Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of Social Justice Department regarding these issues. The government is taking positive steps to resolve these issues, he added.

The state has implemented the recommendations of Lad-Page Committee. The state government is making efforts to sort out difficulties faced by sanitation workers in getting caste validation certificates. Similarly, the government is active in resolving the housing problem of these workers. Shri Hathibed insisted on conducting regular health check-up of the sanitation workers.

On this occasion Principal Secretary of Social Justice Department Shyam Tagde, Secretary of National Sanitary Workers’ Commission Narayan Das and others were present.
