Maharashtra: Hand Sanitizer Instead Of Polio Drops Given To Children

Yavatmal, February 2, 2021: A case of gross negligence has come to light from Kapasikopari village in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra.  12 children were given sanitizer drops instead of polio drops. All children are under five years of age.

It came to light when the condition of the children started deteriorating after taking the drop. After complaining of vomiting and restlessness, they have been admitted to the district hospital. A team of doctors is monitoring these children.

An inquiry has been ordered against a doctor, anganwadi worker and an ASHA worker of Bhanbora Primary Health Center. According to Zilla Parishad CEO Shrikrishna Panchal, the condition of the children is stable now.

The incident took place on Sunday at Bhanbora PHC (Primary Health Center) in Kapasikopari village. The National Pulse Polio Vaccination Campaign for 1-5-year-old children was organised there.

Yavatmal Zilla Parishad CEO Shrikrishna Panchal said that 12 children under the age of 5 were given two drops of sanitizer instead of polio drops. After this, the children started complaining of vomiting and restlessness.
