Maharashtra Government Fixes Rate For Beds In Private Hospitals For COVID Treatment

Pune, 2nd June 2021: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has sanctioned the revised rates for beds in private hospitals in the state.

On Tuesday, he approved notification to ensure that the private hospitals in the state do not overcharge patients for Coronavirus disease (COVID19) treatment. He has also directed the District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners for strict and effective implementation.

“The rates are now fixed by classifying the cities. The cities and rural areas in the state have been split into three categories. No higher rates can be charged than these fixed rates. District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners have also received further orders for strict and effective implementation”, said Chief Minister Thackeray.

Class A cities include Mumbai and areas under Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) excluding Bhiwandi, Vasai-Virar. Pune and Nagpur City are also in the Class A category. In these areas, Covid general bed will cost Rs 4000 per day; while ICU with ventilator bed will cost Rs 9000 per day in private hospitals. The cost of an ICU bed without a ventilator has been decided at Rs 7500 per day.

Nashik, Amaravati, Aurangabad, Bhiwandi, Solapur, Kolhapur, Vasai-Virar, Malegaon, Nanded, Sangli cities and their district headquarters have been included in the Class B category. Here, the Covid general bed will cost Rs 3000. The rate of ICU with ventilator bed has been decided at Rs 6700, whereas, ICU without ventilator will cost Rs 5500.

In the Class C category, all the cities and areas apart from those which are already mentioned in Class A and Class B have been included. In these areas, Covid general bed will cost Rs 2400. The cost of an ICU bed with a ventilator is Rs 5400 while the ICU without a ventilator bed costs Rs 4500.

In these daily rates, the patient’s monitoring and investigations, medication, oxygen charges, consultations, bed charges and nursing charges along with meals are included. However, high-end medicines like Remdesivir has been excluded from this rate chart. The Covid testing charges will also be payable separately.
