Pune, 6th September 2024: The Government of Maharashtra has made a crucial decision to address the traffic congestion on Pune – Ahmednagar Highway. The 53-kilometer stretch from Yerawada to Shirur will see the construction of a six-tier flyover, approved by the Cabinet in a meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The project, managed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is expected to cost ₹7,515 crore.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to propose a six-lane expansion for the Yerawada to Shirur stretch to alleviate traffic issues. The road, which runs through Yerawada within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits and extends to Kharadi, is a state road. There had been calls for the Maharashtra Government to develop it similarly to the signal-free Pune-Mumbai road passing through Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawar also directed that, along with expanding the road to six lanes, plans should be made for flyovers and grade separators. A detailed proposal was prepared and approved by the Cabinet yesterday.
