Maharashtra Electricity Rates Increased By 10 Percent From This Month, Additional 17 Percent Hike From Next Year

Pune, 1st April 2023: The Maharashtra State Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a 10 percent increase in electricity tariffs for domestic consumers on the first day of the new financial year (1st April) and an additional 17 percent increase from 1st April 2024. Following the 18 percent increase in tolls on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, this is the second increase imposed on the common people from 1st April.

On the first day of the new financial year, the people of the state received a significant shock. Since Saturday, electricity rates have increased, affecting every household consumer who will now have to pay higher charges for their electricity consumption every month.

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has implemented new tariffs from 1st April. There are mainly four electricity distribution companies, with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) being run by the state government. The increase in electricity tariffs is expected to provide some relief to MSEDCL, which is already facing financial difficulties due to arrears of electricity bills.
