Lockdown violation: Over 11,00 persons booked, 800 vehicles seized by Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad police

Pune, March 31, 2020: The officials from Pune City Police and Pimpri-Chinchwad police have begun a crackdown on people found breaking lockdown rules. The lockdown is being implemented across India to stop the spread of Coronavirus COVID19.

Police officials said that they have taken action against over 11,00 persons in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas in the last two days. Police have also seized about 800 vehicles as vehicle movement is not allowed except those engaged in essential services or those having police pass for emergency cases.

On Tuesday, Pimpri-Chinchwad police booked 17 persons for illegally selling liquor and seized liquor worth Rs 25 lakhs. FIRs have been filed against 132 persons who were found violating lockdown rule. They have been charged for an offence under section 188 (disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant) under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

On the other hand, Pune city police took action against 341 people for violating lockdown order and seized 616 vehicles. Earlier cops had seized 182 vehicles.

Pune police have appealed people to come out of home only for essential work. Also, they need police permission if they have to use a vehicle in medical cases or other emergency work. Since March 27, a total of 91,580 online requests were submitted through website www.punepolice.in. Till today police have issued digital passes (QR codes) to 19,860 while 47,452 requests have been rejected. The other requests are under process.

There have been 48 cases of Coronavirus in Pune district including one death. Police have appealed people to stay in their homes as social distancing is the only way to stop the spread of this deadly virus.
